Perinatal Therapy
Many people experience a wide range of feelings during the perinatal period from excitement, uncertainty, grief, anxiety, loss of identity, to the resurfacing of past trauma. Perinatal counselling offers a safe space to process these experiences with care and compassion.
Perinatal counselling provides emotional and psychological support during the significant life transition of becoming a parent. This period includes conception, pregnancy, birth, and the early months or years after a baby is born. It is often referred to as the perinatal period.

How can Counselling help?
At Play & Creative Therapy Bundaberg, our perinatal counselling is tailored to meet each parent where they are. Whether you are navigating infertility, pregnancy after loss, birth trauma, postnatal depression or anxiety, or simply feeling overwhelmed in early parenthood, this space is here for you.
We also recognise the emotional impact this journey can have on partners. Birthing partners are welcome to access support, explore their own experiences, and learn how to stay steady and present in their parenting role.
Our sessions are grounded in nervous system education, trauma-informed care, and creative expression. We explore how birth experiences, identity shifts, relationship changes, and unmet expectations can impact emotional wellbeing. We also support you to reconnect with your own strengths and values as you find steadiness in this new chapter.
Jo Lamond, our Perinatal Mental Health Specialist, brings dedicated training and experience in working with perinatal grief, birth trauma, and the emotional complexities of early parenting. She offers both individual sessions and creative-based approaches for parents who may find talk therapy challenging or overwhelming.
Perinatal counselling is not only for when things feel hard. It can also be a preventative, grounding support as you adjust to change and begin to make meaning from your experience.
